Emergency Response
Whenever the unexpected need for water control arises, the AquaDam® provides a quick solution. These temporary systems offer effective water management with a fast setup. Several miles of AquaDams® are ready to ship anywhere across the continental United States, even to some sites within hours of a request.
Cofferdams for Spills and Emergency Response
An AquaDam® is designed to offer water diversion, control, and containment. The system contains an outer sleeve and two inner tubes positioned next to each other. The watertight tubes fill with the on-site water and the material sinks to the bottom of a water system, creating a stable barrier.
Each AquaDam® offers a lightweight design, with a quick and relatively easy installation. Setups vary depending on size, with options ranging from 1 foot to over 16 feet in height. Installation requires an on-site water supply (open source is recommended), some portable water pumps and laborers.
Depending on whether the environment contains standing or flowing water, emergency response workers can choose to anchor the AquaDam® or let it stand freely. Pumping water into the temporary cofferdam causes the unit to unroll and begin to take shape. After achieving the desired height, the water-filled cofferdam sits on the floor of the water system acting as a gravity dam. It’s ideal for various applications, including water storage, flood control, and water diversion applications. Below are few examples of emergency response applications.
Water Encroaching Infrastructure
Using an AquaDam® as a cofferdam works great for water encroaching infrastructure. An AquaDam® can be used to manage rising rivers, lakes, and ocean depths. Controlling and diverting water with an AquaDam® can redirect flow away from infrastructure. The AquaDam® helps keep the water within a watershed by utilizing the on-site water to fill the unit. The same water is returned to the original body of water when the AquaDam® is removed.
Hazardous Spill Isolation
A cofferdam can help isolate hazardous chemicals or materials in an environment from a spill. Quickly creating a barrier with an AquaDam® can prevent the hazardous substances from spreading downstream or migrating into water sources. These hazardous materials can pollute water sources and detrimentally impact the species in an ecosystem. Controlling, containing, or diverting water can reduce the runoff volume adding to the loading of pollutants, from a hazardous spill.
Excavated Contaminated Sediment
A contaminated sediment water dam provides highly effective water control. The AquaDam® allows emergency response workers to isolate the water to prevent any hazardous substances from migrating. Workers can then complete submerged excavation to remove the contaminated substances isolated from the body of water. Alternatively, workers can complete the excavation of the deposits after the water has been diverted or drained.
Choose AquaDam® for Emergency Response Projects
The patented technology of the AquaDam® is designed to overcome the water control weaknesses of traditional alternatives. Some advantages of choosing temporary water-filled cofferdams for emergency response projects include:
- Fast implementation: The AquaDam® installation can be completed quickly, depending on the number and size of pumps used to fill the dam.
- Eco-friendly methods: The design’s high-grade woven polypropylene and extruded polyethylene materials, that are environmentally safe and conform to the Clean Water Act’s environmental regulations.
- High efficiency: With their inherit design, these cofferdams reduce the risk of discharge into the surrounding water and ecosystem.
- Cost savings: These water diversion products require minimal time, labor, and equipment; which lowers costs compared to other methods, such as sandbags or sheet pile.
