The Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) acquired three 6ft tall, 13ft wide, and 200ft long single closed end (SCE) AquaDams to safeguard a bank along a wash area during a construction project.
To ensure the successful installation of a SCE AquaDam, it is crucial to have a starting bank that keeps the open end at a higher elevation than the full height of the AquaDam. The open end and fill-tubes of an SCE AquaDam must be kept elevated above the dam's full height along its designated path. The AquaDam will reach its maximum height only at the lowest point along its designated path.
The workers constructed a small pond to collect and contain the contaminated water.
The first 6ft tall SCE AquaDam has completely unrolled and now needs to finish being filled with water.
As the AquaDam is filled with water, the sides and ends contract and become more rounded as the structure rises and becomes more rigid.
Looking back at the starting bank of the first SCE AquaDam. This unit rolled right over top of the reeds.
The AquaDam will achieve its filled height at the lowest point along its designated route.
The upstream water is to the right of this photo.
A second 6ft tall SCE AquaDam has been unrolled and attached to the first one.
Here we can see the connection collar where the two AquaDams have been joined. The fill-tubes and open end of the second SCE AquaDam have been pulled up into the collar of the first dam. The fill-tubes were threaded through holes cut in the collar, positioned on top of the closed end of the first SCE AquaDam. Discharge hoses were then inserted into the fill-tubes to fill the second SCE AquaDam.
The second SCE AquaDam has been successfully installed and is currently being filled with water.
Here we can see the closed end and connection collar of the second SCE AquaDam. The connection collar is still wrapped around the wooden beam.
As the second SCE AquaDam is being filled with water, the workers are deliberating their next steps.
The workers have made the decision to install an additional 6ft tall SCE AquaDam in order to further extend the cofferdam along the bank.
The third 6ft tall SCE AquaDam has been successfully installed by the team of workers and is currently being filled with water.
With the third 6ft tall SCE AquaDam in place workers watch and wait while the pumps fill the AquaDam.
The water has been diverted away from the bank that needed to be protected.
All three 6ft tall SCE AquaDams have been installed and fully filled. Workers tied up the fill-tubes to prevent any water from escaping.
Here we can observe how the fill-tubes have been tied up and secured to prevent any water from getting out.
Wonderful job AquaDam!
