Workers have successfully installed a 5ft tall AquaDam in a lined oil refinery settling pond located in Bloomfield, New Mexico.
Before installation, workers collaborate to develop a strategic plan and carefully select the optimal location for positioning the AquaDam.
The AquaDam was constructed on site by workers. Initially, the outer sleeve material was laid out. For a 5ft tall AquaDam, two layers of material are used to create the outer sleeve.
Next, the inner tubing is installed. For a single closed end (SCE) and a double closed end (DCE) AquaDam, the inner tubing extends all the way to the end and then loops back around, creating two tubes side by side as one continuous piece. In contrast, a double open end (DOE) AquaDam features two separate tubes side by side.
Workers are currently making adjustments to the AquaDam material at the far end of the pond.
AquaDams are constructed using lightweight, flexible materials that are susceptible to being caught by the wind. Therefore, it is necessary for workers to assist in holding the material in place during the construction process.
After pulling the inner tubing through, air is added to the AquaDam to ensure that all layers are properly aligned.
Workers utilized fans equipped with trunks to push air into the fill tubes, thereby expanding and evenly distributing the material. Subsequently, workers gently shook and rolled the air-filled AquaDam to ensure proper alignment of the layers.
Once the layers were properly aligned and the AquaDam was positioned, the workers proceeded to deflate it.
Next, the AquaDam was filled with water. It is recommended to use an open water source, preferably the water in which the AquaDam is being installed.
The 5ft tall AquaDam is almost full of water.
A small pipe was installed beneath the AquaDam to allow for the controlled flow of water from the pond.
The 5ft tall AquaDam appears to be pretty much full now.
The elevation of the banks surrounding this pond exceeds the height of the AquaDam, making it an ideal location for a SCE or DOE AquaDam installation.
A full AquaDam can be used as a platform for walking or even staging equipment.
