.) AquaDams to the rescue! A tidal drainage culvert needed repair. It was leaking badly into the adjacent pasture lands. AquaDams were used to plug the inside of the culvert so that high tidal water could not pass. The tidal gate on the opposite side of the levee needed to be replaced.
.) This is a picture of a 4ft tall 9ft wide 20ft long AquaDam. This AquaDam extend 15ft inside the culvert (plugging it off) and 5ft remained out of the end.
.) Repairs of the opposite side of the culvert could begin. The work could not be completed in one single low-tide event.
.) During high tide the culvert is sealed off by the AquaDam plug.
.) This was the metal collar that held the tidal flood gate in position around the end of the culvert. The rancher was hoping to reuse this; however, it looks doubtful. A new gate will have to be manufactured to fit the end of the culvert on the Pacific Ocean side of the levee.
.) Another part of the flood gate, which also needed to be replaced.
.) Here is a section of old culvert that was removed after being in service for 50 years.
.) Great job AquaDam!
