This first AquaDam lacked a starting bank, necessitating the transformation of a single closed end (SCE) style dam into a double closed end (DCE) with a zipper. This modification allowed the fill-tubes to extend through the top of the dam. In a DCE AquaDam, the fill-tubes are positioned on top of the unit, enabling it to stand independently without the need for a starting bank.
The AquaDams, standing at 4 feet tall, have the capacity to hold around 10,000 gallons of water each. To fill the unit with water, a standard garden hose was inserted into one of the fill tubes.
After the initial DCE unit is filled, a second SCE AquaDam is connected to the first using a connection collar. The towering 6ft worker, clad in a bright yellow vest, stands before the AquaDam, showcasing the impressive size of these structures.
These two AquaDams will serve as water storage units until the local well is depleted. Once the well runs dry, a pump will be utilized to extract the stored water from one of the AquaDams. This water will then be used to irrigate the grapes during the dry summer months, ensuring they receive the necessary hydration to thrive.
