Launching the 10ft tall 21ft wide 576ft long AquaDam off its starting bank. It is essential to have a starting bank that maintains a higher elevation than the body of the AquaDam. The open end and fill-tubes of an AquaDam must remain elevated above the full height of the dam along its designated path. It is important to note that an AquaDam will only reach its maximum height at the lowest elevation point along its designated path.
The 10ft tall AquaDam has been launched from its starting bank and is filling as it crosses the pond. Workers anchor ropes at the shore, run them under the AquaDam, over the top of the roll, and back to workers who control the roll while filling the dam with water. These ropes help hold back the roll as the unrolled length fills and rises above the surrounding water.
The 10ft tall AquaDam continues to fill. After the unrolled length has a few inches of head above the surrounding water, workers release a few feet of rope unrolling a few feet of length, then hold the ropes tight again and repeat the process until the dam reaches its ending bank.
Workers are also using ropes to control the roll and direct the path of the AquaDam. As the AquaDam is filled with water, the pressure from the water inside the fill-tubes pushes against the roll end, causing it to gradually unroll.
A view looking at the starting bank, notice how much higher the bank is compared to the top of the water.
The AquaDam roll floats in deep enough water, which makes installation a breeze. As the AquaDam fills up, it unrolls in a line. To make bends or turns, just pull on one side of the roll with rope. You can also slow down or stop the pumping on one side of the AquaDam to help it turn naturally.
Looking at the ending bank, where the roll ended square to the bank. The 10ft tall AquaDam just has to finish being filled.
A bend in the AquaDam near the ending bank.
The roll end of the AquaDam on its ending bank. Part of the dam is stilled rolled up on the beam.
Standing at the ending bank looking back towards the bend and starting bank. Can you spot any variations in water depth between the left and right sides of the AquaDam?
Here we can see the filled height of the 10ft tall AquaDam. Wonderful job AquaDam!
